19: Gratitude

Since Thanksgiving is just around the corner, I’ve been thinking a lot about gratitude and how life would be different if we weren’t grateful for just the good things in our lives.  It’s easy to be grateful for those, but what if we looked at even the not-so-good things (such as alopecia) through the lens of being appreciative, thankful even?  By asking these questions I’m not saying to just be glad, alopecia’s no big deal.  I just wonder how our relationship with the disease might be different if we refocused our perspective.  Here are some thoughts for you to chew on while getting ready for, and celebrating, Thanksgiving:

  1. What if we appreciated all of who we are, on the outside and the inside, every single day, period?
  2. What if we were grateful for all that we have, rather than what we lack, whether real or imagined?
  3. What if we looked at everything that happens to us as happening for the best, as tools to transform our trials into triumph?

The mind is a very powerful thing, and alopecia a very powerful disease.  How might any aspect of your experience with it change if you applied just one of these questions?

I’ll be taking time off from my blogging to make space for all the wonderful things the holidays have in store, but fear not.  I’ll be back in 2019 with new posts, and look forward to having you along for the ride.  Have a safe, restful, and gratitude-filled Thanksgiving!
