The experiences I line out in this latest vlog illustrate some experiences I’ve had that have helped me grow in my confidence as an alopecian, especially when not wearing a wig. At the end of the day, what I’ve learned is that being honest with people and with yourself about what alopecia is, what it’s not, and how having it makes you feel, demystifies the disease for others and for ourselves. The more familiar we become with the disease and with our own emotions, whether it’s by talking about the details with a friend, bringing them up in conversation, or allowing ourselves to feel whatever it is alopecia brings up, the better prepared we are for those moments that might otherwise catch us off guard.
